we fit!

Some yuppie trends are too good not to follow. Being Wii-obsessed is one of them, and getting Wii Fit is just a natural progression of that condition.

Yes, we paid way too much for it, and yes, it was worth every penny. Now we can quantify how terrible I am at dancing. In a mini-game where you don't have to do much more than step on and off the board in rhythm to music, Susan scored something like 138 "perfects" and 2 "OKs". I managed to get only 2 "perfect" steps in...

what can stop a mailman?

This is quite possibly the best piece of news I've read in a long time (oh yeah... since last Tuesday... but nevertheless). The Post Office is considering cutting delivery days to five.

Of course! Do I really care if my mailbox becomes junk-mail-free on Tuesdays? Of course not. I would even wait an extra day for the Wii Fit that we should be getting any time now. Why such uncharacteristic patience? Well, think for a second how much gas it takes for the mailman to visit every single house almost every day. It's mind-boggling.

do my work for $0.03

Really busy at work - we're prototyping an enterprise social networking service that's supposed to punch through the firewall in a big way. My part involves customizing an open-source platform to meet our needs; seeing that all the developers are either busy or have spontaneously left the company as soon as the project started, I've set up my one-man "full UCD cycle" shop. With the speed of a cheetah that's been caught in a bear trap, I mock up what I need to do, hand it off to the front-end developer (me), muck around with the PHP/HTML/CSS/JavaScript soup, have the testers (namely, myself) play with the changes in the sandbox environment, and then release it to our prototype. It would be fine if the other projects that I need to work on stopped for the time being, but they continue demanding my attention like a bunch of unfed babies.

On a somewhat related topic, I just stumbled upon Amazon's "Mechanical Turk" service (here's the Wikipedia explanation), and am now pondering ways of splitting up my workload into HITs ;)

on wives and cars

After seeing the, hmm, transformation that my car has gone through, Susan is understandably protective of her Accord. When I drove it recently, though, I heard some screeching noises coming from the front end, but Sue tried to assure me that she's been hearing that for a while and that everything was fine. Still, just to be safe, I decided to check on the brakes.

Driver's side pads were fine, so I was about to start formulating other theories when I figured it wouldn't hurt to check the passenger's side too. Oh word. The pads were worn down to the point where the metal of the backing pad was showing through. Compare the thickness to a new pad:

Aye caramba!
